Shakespeare in Song

Date: 7 October 2023
Time: 6.00pm
Duration: 70 minutes

Location: All Saints’ Anglican Church

17 Via Solferino, Milan

Performed in English and Italian

Actor and composer/musician Daniel Zappi will perform a selection of these songs, monologues and sonnets which he has set to music. Plays featured include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Cymbeline and many more.

Elizabethan plays often included music and dance, with theatres often having ‘musicians-in-residence’. Shakespeare and his collaborators were no exception and he often included songs in his plays. They were an important part of audience engagement and he used them to great effect.

Recently premiered at the Volterra International Theatre Festival, where it was very well received, the concert is innovative and entertaining, allowing the audience to take in the Bard’s works through his numerous, beautiful songs.
